Queen + Adam Lambert - Rock In Rio Lisboa 2016streaming
I'd like to say it was simply amazing! But there was nothing 'simple' about this show. Queen still inspires and rocks young and old! My husband and I have been fans since we first heard them on the radio in the early 70s. Brian May doesn't miss a lick in this show.
When what was expected to be that one-off appearance on a talent show seemed to ignite a new spark in both May and Taylor, it was only a matter of time before the trio appeared together again. And again. Queen had been dormant since ending their partnership with Paul Rodgers , so May watched some clips of Lambert on YouTube. But it was really blindingly obvious that there was a chemistry already between us and Adam. It just happened completely naturally and made us all smile. The public reaction was massive, and so I think from that moment the idea of us working with Adam was seeded in our brains.
As with all other Queen performances since , longstanding bassist John Deacon has declined to participate in the project due to his retirement. Like the previous project, it was made clear that Lambert would not be replacing Queen frontman Freddie Mercury , but rather that he would be featured with the band's active members. The collaboration originated when May and Taylor appeared on American Idol in when Lambert was a contestant. In the summer of , the group performed several dates as part of a festival tour in Europe and several dates in Asia. The next year, the group announced a second worldwide tour scheduled for and Although there are currently no plans to release a studio album with this lineup, May and Taylor have stated that there is a possibility of the group recording original material.

A retro act referencing a historic moment: We have arrived at peak pop culture nostalgia. But when it comes to capitalizing on reboot mania, Queen has done everything right. More Reviews. Because there will only be one Freddie Mercury. Like any successful reboot, the new Queen still offers up something for the long-term fans, in May and drummer Roger Taylor, while also offering up Lambert, and a return to relevancy thanks to the film, for younger audiences. And how lucky I feel. The mostly older audience likely appreciated all the nods to the Queen they grew up with.
As Adam Lambert pointed out early in night one of two sold-out shows at L. A's Forum, he has been working with Queen for eight years now. So seeing the pairing together isn't new. However, this is the first tour post the worldwide box office success of the Oscar-winning Bohemian Rhapsody , which reminded a generation that grew up on Queen and showed those younger fans who might never have known it, Freddie Mercury is on the very shortlist of greatest rock frontman of all time. With that in mind, it makes what Lambert and Queen have pulled off over the last few years even more stunning and impressive. But with all due respect to all of the great singers of those bands, as great as they were, and I am a fan of all of them, they weren't Mercury.
Adam Lambert is only now beginning to be recognised by the greater public as the true phenomenon that he is. Gifted with a voice in a billion, for himself he is a passionate and unyielding perfectionist. Gifted to us, he is the reason that we are still alive as a functioning rock band. And still able to take on new challenges. That's a big deal when you're a touring family.
