The news is the inevitable culmination of a lengthy saga that has seen the slow, painful demise of the once common free ski hosting service offered by many UK tour operators as well as Ski Club, following legal clampdowns. However, club members, Leaders and unaffiliated UK snow-sports fans alike have expressed a mix of disappointment, anger and resignation. There is also concern for the future of the Club, which was founded in , as members threaten to leave.

The Ski Club of Great Britain is a recreational snow sports club, which operates on a not-for-profit basis. The Ski Club currently has over 29, members, making it the biggest membership-based snowsports club in the UK. Their offices are located in Wimbledon, southwest London. The aims of the Club, as outlined at the very first meeting, were to encourage other people to learn to ski, help members improve and take more enjoyment from their skiing while bringing together people interested in the sport. Before World War I the club was primarily concerned with cross country Nordic skiing.
