Thrilling and entertaining, this climax defines the entire movie. For example, who can forget the self-sacrifice made by Mongo? The iconic and flawless costume change made by the fairy godmother at the beginning of the song? This scene is so perfect it actually hurts. It is, in fact, the greatest achievement in animation history.

It was written by Jim Steinman and Dean Pitchford. Initially, the song only just reached the Top in the UK Singles Chart , but made it to number 2 the following year, and re-entered the charts again at number 69 in The song reached No. It reached the top 40 in the United States and Canada. The song's instrumental break was reused from an earlier song by Jim Steinman called "Stark Raving Love", which featured on Steinman's album Bad for Good. Steinman suggested Tyler's name when he was approached about finding a singer to record the song.

Where have all the good men gone And where are all the gods? Where's the street-wise Hercules To fight the rising odds? Isn't there a white knight upon a fiery steed? Late at night I toss and I turn and I dream of what I need. Chorus I need a hero I'm holding out for a hero 'til the end of the night He's gotta be strong And he's gotta be fast And he's gotta be fresh from the fight I need a hero I'm holding out for a hero 'til the morning light He's gotta be sure And it's gotta be soon And he's gotta be larger than life larger than life.

Somewhere after midnight In my wildest fantasy Somewhere just beyond my reach There's someone reaching back for me Racing on the thunder and rising with the heat It's gonna take a superman to sweep me off my feet.

It was late at night, as I tossed and turned in my bed in which my 9 lb cat was somehow taking up most of the room, I decided to rewatch a classic from my childhood. Now, for those who truly know me, know that I have a deep appreciation for the cinematic arts. Shrek 2 grazed our lives in April of after the successful first movie of the franchise, Shrek Who came up with this idea of a scene, GOD?! It actually took me until to realize that this song was NOT written for Shrek 2 as an original song but in fact was written for an entirely different movie. Regardless, the stakes are high at this point, if Fiona kisses Charming, then she falls in love with him, and it is an instant game over for Shrek.
